The type of food people daily take, affects their attitude and behaviour towards others. Look ! an oil lamp devours the darkness and in that process produces lampblack.
(The living beings in this world can be divided into two main categories i.e. herbivorous and carnivorous. Carnivorous living beings are by nature cruel because they have to kill other animals to feed themselves. The food herbivorous living beings take, is also divided into three categories namely (i) Saatvik (ii) Rajasik and (iii) Taamasik (detailed in chapter 17 of Bhagvadgeeta shloka 7 to 10) The effect of taking Taamasik food (worst kind of food) is also adverse among its takers. The underlying idea behind this Subhashita is that the food which take affects our behaviour and attitude towards others depending upon what type of food we take.)
